The midwest city of Omaha, Nebraska, is pretty proud of the Top Ten lists that they have been named to over the past few years:

• Number One of the Ten Best Cities to Raise a Family in America
• Number One for Economic Performance During the Last Recession
• Number Two for Top Pro-Business Cities
• Number Two for Up-and-Coming-Cities for Music
• Number Three for Best Cities for Successful Aging
• Number Three for Best States for Young Adults

With ratings like this from sources like Movoto Blog, MTV Iggy, Miliken Institute, Brookings Institute, and MoneyRates.com, Omaha is proud and excited when their name appears on a list and draws more attention to its mid-sized city. Some ratings, however, are not as celebrated. For example, when the national health reports consistently listed Omaha and its surrounding Douglas County as having some of the highest number of reports of chlamydia and gonorrheas, the state in the middle of Nebraska would have loved to have been left off that list. No state, obviously, wants to be listed as a location for some of the highest sexually transmitted diseases (STD).
No City Wants to be on the Top of This List!
In response to these alarming statistics, however, local health agencies made an effort to make affordable STD testing clinics more available. Luckily, the community’s need and desire to provide more STD testing clinics coincided with the nation’s move toward quick care clinics that provide a wide variety of health services, including STD testing clinics.
In America, nearly 7,000 urgent care centers are available to provide STD testing clinics, as well as many other health screenings and treatments. Conveniently, the majority of these quick care centers are located in freestanding buildings, which allow for convenient and confidential access.
In addition to being conveniently located, the majority of urgent care clinics also provide care without long waits. According to a Urgent Care Association of America survey 57% of quick care clinic patients wait 15 minutes or less to be seen. In addition, nearly 80% of all visits are shorter than an hour. Also, 66% of quick care clinics staff a combination of physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Most impressively, 65% of these centers have at least one physician on staff every hour that they are open.
