Many people prefer to take natural remedies to treat a variety of physical and mental health issues that they experience. There are a number of issues that may be reduced or alleviated by using these natural remedies in conjunction with following a healthy diet. These include migraines, depression, anxiety, sleep or wakefulness disorders, and digestive diseases.
Migraines, Severe Headaches, and Depression
Every month, more than half of the people that experience migraines have 1 or more attacks. On a weekly basis, however, roughly 13% of people with migraines have 1 or more attacks, which can be extremely debilitating.
Recent studies show that a minimum of 50% of migraine sufferers continue to be undiagnosed and under treated. It is interesting to note that fewer than 50% of the individuals that suffer with migraines consult or otherwise work with a physician.
Given the pain and other side effects associated with migraines and severe headaches, it’s not surprising that depression is common. In fact, a person with migraines and/or severe headaches is 3 times more likely to experience depression as well.
There are believed to be 40 million adults in the United States that have some type of anxiety disorder. These disorders are considered to be the most common form of mental illness. Even though anxiety disorders are highly treatable, many people don’t seek treatment. Roughly 33% of the individuals with these disorders do seek and receive treatment, however.
Sleep and Wakefulness Disorders
There are a variety of sleep and wakefulness disorders, and it is estimated that 50 to 70 million American adults are suffering with 1 or more of these. Insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias, and sleep apnea are some of the common sleep and wakefulness disorders.
There are between 60 to 70 million people that experience digestive diseases. Between 2009 and 2010, for example, physician’s offices, hospital outpatient and emergency departments reported that there were 51 million visits from patients with a primary diagnosis of digestive system diseases. In 2009 alone, 245,921 people died as a result of these diseases.
